DeCypher Financials

My parent runs my creator business because I'm under 18. Can you work with us?

Short answer

Yes. DeCypher works with creators under 18 through the parent or guardian who manages the business, as long as the creator joins our calls too.

Why we ask the creator to join: it's their business and their money. When parents relay everything secondhand, details get lost. And when the creator turns 18, they'll already understand their own finances.

What we usually see with younger creators:

  • Income under a parent's name. Brand deals and AdSense paid to the parent's Social Security number or the parent's LLC.
  • Side effects for the family. That income can raise the parent's taxes and affect things like health insurance subsidies.
  • The creator on payroll. It can make sense, but it comes with payroll taxes and rules of its own.

Our job is to set it up the right way now, and plan the handoff for when the creator turns 18, like moving the LLC and income into their own name.

Income for minors can follow special tax rules, so every family's situation is different.
