Will my creator income make me pay back my health insurance subsidy?
Short answer
Possibly, yes. If you got a premium tax credit for marketplace health insurance based on an income estimate, and your creator income came in higher, you may have to pay back part or all of the difference when you file.

How it happens: when you sign up on the marketplace, the subsidy is based on what you expect to earn. At tax time, the IRS compares it with what you actually earned. Creator income jumps fast, and the gap shows up as tax owed.
We've seen it add thousands of dollars to a creator's tax bill on top of everything else.
How to avoid the surprise:
- Update your income estimate on the marketplace as soon as your income rises.
- Count all of it: brand deals, AdSense, affiliates, TikTok Shop.
- Remember write-offs lower the income that counts, so clean books matter here too.
- Set money aside if you'll likely owe some back.
If a parent's income includes a child creator's earnings, it can affect the whole household's subsidy too.
